Homebush railway station

Homebush railway station is a station on the Main Suburban railway line of the Sydney Trains system. Located in the suburb of Homebush, it is at the point where six tracks reduce to four. The station serves as the primary intermediate terminus for all stations Airport, Inner West & South Line trains via Ashfield. Limited stops trains do not stop, meaning interchange between all and limited stops services must be done at the previous station of Strathfield. There are seven platforms, although only platform 6 (the turnback platform) is currently in use. A freight line connection to North Strathfield also passes through the station adjacent to platform 1.Homebush is the 117th most patronised railway station in Sydney (out of a total of 176 stations), with an average of 1900 passengers boarding per day.HistoryHomebush station opened in 1855 with the opening of the railway line. The station was expanded to 6 platforms when the line between Redfern and Homebush was sextupled in the 1920s. On 11 April 1994, a large fire destroyed the original heritage-listed buildings on platforms 3 and 4, they were later rebuilt as a simpler structure. During the Sydney 2000 Olympics the station was closed to avoid confusion with the nearby Olympic Park station. Olympic Park is located near Homebush Bay.Under the CityRail Clearways Project, an additional platform (platform 7) has been constructed, with tracks rearranged to create a turnback at platform 6. This turnback platform enabled all stations trains to be terminated clear of the running lines and create extra capacity between Homebush and Lidcombe. Regular terminating services began with the timetable implemented on 20 October 2013.
